EXHIBITS

Variance Intelligent Habitat Systems works on the small-scale, but our integration of real-life detail leaves big impressions. We understand the challenges and difficulties involved with displaying small species in their ideal habitat, and have the experience to balance and beautify your system. With a design from Variance Intelligent Habitat Systems, including natural décor, blooming foliage, and calibrated life support, your selected species will be seamlessly introduced into the world of living exhibits.

Am·phib·i·an

A cold-blooded vertebrate that inhabits aquatic and terrestrial environments during its life. Amphibians breathe and drink trough their skin, making them one the planets best eco-indicators.

Creating functional habitats for these delicate animals requires a vast understanding of living systems, suitable building materials, and the expertise to incorporate the correct life support needed to successfully maintain healthy animals. We understand the challenges of keeping amphibians in captivity and can design a system that will enhance your space and function as a working ecosystem.

Currently over 30% of all amphibian species are threatened with extinction. We believe that it is vital to educate the public and create awareness about this environmental catastrophe. Variance is proud to have created living exhibits for several endangered species, while helping promote sustainable preservation of amphibian habitat.

Ar·thro·pod

An invertebrate animal that has a jointed appendages, an exoskeleton, and a segmented body. The diversity of arthropods is astounding with over 1,500,000 described species, which account for over 80% of animal species on earth.

Arthropods are so interesting that they could not be left off of our habitat radar. Over the years, we have constructed numerous aquariums, paludariums, and terrariums to house these fascinating creatures for public display, including the San Diego Zoo.

With so much diversity, we are always excited when we are able to work on projects involving arthropods, or consult on species integration for existing habitats and exhibits. Arthropods, as pollinators, play an important role in the human food chain. Variance is dedicated to the study of habitat adaptation and animal survivability, and how invertebrates contribute to our planet.

Plant

A photosynthetic, eukaryotic, multicellular organism, that characteristically produces embryos, contains chloroplasts, has cellulose cell walls, and lacks the power of locomotion.

The most important part of creating living systems is the incorporation plants into habitats. They are the balancing factor in any ecosystem, they purify waste (symbiosis), create micro climates and build habitat.

At Variance Intelligent Habitat Systems, our efforts to locate the proper vegetation for all of our projects is unmatched. Our eco-designers have traveled throughout the world and have gained firsthand knowledge not only about many of the plant species featured in our designs, but also about cultivation and propagation.

Rep·tile

A cold blooded animal with skin covered in scales, and/or scutes. This class contains snakes, lizards, crocodiles, turtles and tortoises.

Some of the first habitats we created were constructed for reptiles we caught in our backyards as children. Through the years our skills have sharpened, and we constantly aim to create realistic, sustainable exhibits that promote healthy living and longevity.

In-wall Exhibits

Stacks Image 147
In-wall Exhibits are designed to be recessed into a wall. These exhibits can be rear opening, to meet containment protocol, or front opening for a more seemless look.

Walk-around Exhibits

Stacks Image 156
Walk-around exhibits are designed to be in the center of a gallery space. These exhibits can usually be viewed from multiple sides.

Against-wall Exhibits

Stacks Image 165
Against-wall exhibits are designed to butt up to an existing wall or corner space. These exhibits are usually front or top accessible.

Vivarium is an enclosure to raise small plants and animals.
Aquarium contains aquatic elements.
Terrarium contains terrestrial elements.
Paludarium contains terrestrial and aquatic elements.
